Demand for Telstra’s Kids Fund grants is high and limited funds are available for each funding round. Applications are considered in the order that they are received and once all funds for a round have been allocated, further applications received will be deemed unsuccessful. In those situations, the applicant is welcome to reapply for the next round of funding.
Telstra’s Kids Fund does not pay GST on grants. Providing that there is no supply made by the recipient of the grant (provision of goods or services), the grant provided by Telstra should not attract GST. This accords with the decisions contained in the Australian Tax Office ruling which deals with "Grants of Financial Assistance" (GST RULING 2000/11). If you are unsure as to whether you (as the recipient of the grant) are making a taxable supply to Telstra, it is recommended that you contact your own Tax Adviser for advice.
As a further requirement, the grant must be used by the not-for-profit organisation as per the Telstra's Kids Fund Application Guidelines. All successful recipient organisations are expected to spend the grant money within 12 months of receiving the funds.
To complete the grant application form you will need details of the not-for-profit organisation and its purposes. You need to articulate how the project goals will be achieved, how money will be spent and the benefits it is likely to provide children and young people in the community.
